360-Degree Viewable Holograms

USC Researchers have developed a machine that uses a high-speed projector and rapidly spinning mirror to produce 3D holograms. It uses a custom algorithm to allow for 360-degree viewing, with the proper occlusion and perspective. Practical uses include:video games, education, and marketing.

Rewritable Holgrams

Rewritable holograms have become a reality, with this new technology developed by University of Arizona researchers. Using modified optical communications film, images can be rewritten in under a minute by changing the distribution of electrical charges rather than the entire laser-based structure itself. The new image can be viewed for approximately 3-hours before it starts fading.

Holocube

Available in 10-inch, 15-inch, or 17-inch models, the Holocube is an innovative projector that stores video — on a built-in hard drive – and uses it to create 3D holograms. The Holocube can store up to 18-hours of compressed video at 4Mb/s on its 40GB hard drive, which can then be turned into a 3D hologram at the flick of a switch. Plus, there’s also an optional floor stand for easy transportation.

Pioneer has announced a new A/V receiver series that are certified to work with the iPhone and iPod touch. The receiver models include the VSX-819AH, VSX-919AH, and VSX-1019AH receivers. Users can plug their iPhone or iPod into the receivers and use the full-color GUI to browse album art and control music playback from across the room with the A/V receiver remote.

The receivers will auto mute the music when a call comes in and are all compatible with HD audio making them perfect for use with your Blu-ray player or PS3. One of the best features of the new line is that they are cheap. The lowest cost model supports HD sound and sells for $299 with the most expensive model selling for $499.

Trash can technology really hasn’t evolved much over the years. I think the greatest advancement was when they put on a pedal that opened the lid when you stepped on it. I’ll admit, I love that about my trash can, but surely there are other areas in which we can improve this household item. I suppose there is that smell that comes from stinky garbage. But aside from air fresheners and actually taking out the smelly trash, how else can you combat the smell? Apparently the answer is extremely cold temperatures and an antibacterial UV light.

This awesome Minus concept garbage can uses a combinationof those two things to keep odors at bay. I’m sure that it would work, and it would definitely look awesome doing it, but I doubt this would ever see the light of day. Honestly, how many people are going to want to run a mini freezer that just keeps their trash cold. Plus it would just get re-purposed as an impromptu beer cooler. On second thought, put me down for two.
